Profile of the Department:
Established in 1956 under the leadership of Sri EV Narasimha Murthy, followed by luminaries like Sri R Krishna Murthy, and currently headed by Dr K Lakshmana Rao, the Department of Commerce and Management Studies is the largest department in the college, with 670 students and 5 programs. Initially offering a general B.Com program in both Telugu and English, it expanded to include interdisciplinary UG programs such as B.Com (Computer Applications) in 2012 and B.Com (CECS) in 2013. In 2014, the department introduced an M.Com program with specializations in Accounting and Taxation. In 2020, it ventured into management education with a BBA in Digital Marketing, reflecting its interdisciplinary nature, which led to its renaming as the Department of Commerce and Management Studies. The department’s students have excelled in Accounting, Management, Taxation, Public Service, Sports, and Creative Arts, producing notable alumni, including Chartered Accountants and Company Secretaries.
The department is supported by 13 dedicated faculty members, including five doctorates, six UGC-NET/SET qualifiers, and six dual PG holders. Recognized as a Research Centre by Adikavi Nannaya University, Rajahmundry, the faculty have published over 80 research articles in refereed national and international journals and authored more than five textbooks. Faculty stay updated through faculty development programs and refresher courses, both online and offline.
The curriculum is thoughtfully designed and delivered using diverse teaching methods. The department organizes national and international workshops and seminars, with projects and internships integral to the curriculum. Over 70% of students come from socially and economically challenged backgrounds, and more than 45% are women, reflecting a diverse student community. The department upholds universal education principles of equity, access, and quality, providing support to these groups.
