BOTANY
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
- The department was established in 1933 by Sri T.U. Chacko was the founder Head.
- Eminent teachers like Sri I.M. Rao, Sri Ch. Hanumantha Rao Sri. A. Kameswara Rao Sri. G. Sri Rama Murthy, Sri Md Iqbal Ahmad and their followers put all the efforts to uplift the department. In early days, the department offered P.U.C and B. Sc (hons).
- Later it offered intermediate and B. Sc (Botany) courses, till bifurcation of the Higher Education in 1993.
- The department is anchoring Microbiology since 2004.
- The department produced a galaxy of eminent Botanists who spread over the globe and bringing laurels to their alma mater.
- Prof Rolla S.Rao Prof. J. Venkateswarlu, Prof. Maheswari Devi, Prof. Y.S.R.K.Sarma, Prof. V. R.S. Talpasal, Padma Shri Dr. M. V. Rao, Prof. Piratala N.Rao, Prof Panuganti N. Rao, Prof. V. Seshavataram, Dr.Andra S. Murthy, Sri A.R.K. Sastry Prof. Vatsavaya S. Raju are some among the alumni.
- The department has well equipped Dr. Birbal Sahni memorial Herbarium and Museum, G. J. Mendel memorial Laboratory, Sir. J. C. Bose Memorial laboratory, Sir Gottlieb Haberlandt memorial Tissue Culture and Sir Lamark memorial Mushroom cultivation laboratory.
- It has good Botanical gardens with Medicinal and aromatic, Xerophytic collection, rare plants like Pinus, Arauracaria and ancient herbarium since 1925.

MISSION
To Know the importance and scope of Botany
To impart Knowledge of Science as the basic objective of Education.
To expose themselves to the Diversity amongst Life forms.
To develop the ability for the application of life so as to make our country self-reliant and self-sufficient
