ABOUT DEPARTMENT:

HISTORY:

P.R.Govt, Degree College, (Autonomous) was established in 1884 by Pithapuram Maharaja, Sri. R.V.KM.SURYARAO BAHADUR MAHARAJ.

After the college opted for Autonomous system in 2001, the department has started the restructured course in Biotechnology with Zoology combination from 2002 - 2003.

Till 2019 department of Biotechnology is under the Headship of Zoology and then the Department of Biotechnology was established as a separate department from 2019.

VISION:

To cultivate a center of excellence in biotechnology education and innovation that empowers students to become skilled professionals, ethical researchers, and responsible global citizens contributing to the advancement of science, industry, and society.

MISSION:

- Provide high-quality education grounded in fundamental and applied aspects of biotechnology to prepare students for diverse scientific and industrial careers.

- Promote hands-on learning and research through modern laboratory practices, project-based learning, and collaboration with academic, clinical, and industrial partners.

- Foster innovation, critical thinking, and entrepreneurship to encourage students to develop sustainable biotechnological solutions for real-world challenges.

- Cultivate ethical values, environmental awareness, and social responsibility within students to ensure safe and responsible application of biotechnology.

- Support continuous professional development through seminars, internships, certifications, and exposure to emerging technologies and interdisciplinary fields.
