Economics

The department of Economics was established in the year 1926 with 6 faculty members. The department working with certain broad objectives, to train students in the sphere of economics and inculcate application of economic knowledge in the day-to-day life and in the public. 

After getting autonomous status in 2000 Department of Economics changed its course of academic activities by adopting autonomous status rules. The Department of Economics is updating it syllabus by conducting Board of Studies meeting every year. In the Board of Studies through discussions, the curriculum is decided to cattle the needs of students.

Now the department of Economics has 3 sanctioned posts catering the needs students by imparting knowledge and making the students as good citizens

The Commissionarate of Collegiate Education, Hyderabad, AP granted permission to start M.A Economics during the academic year 2010-11 the college Development Council of Andhra University to which our college is affiliated extended its support to start MA Economics program from 2011-12 academic year. However, later on due to uneconomical strength MA Economics program has been stopped.

 Vision of the department

The vision of the department is to impart relevant knowledge, skills and equip a diverse group of students to deal with newly emerging challenges in Indian economy and Andhra Pradesh economy by involving them in policy framing.

Mission

The mission of the department is:

1. To provide our students with effective teaching that will make them productive in the future
2. To provide our students with appropriate analytical skills to lay the groundwork for lifelong learning
3. To make our students to understand microeconomic and macroeconomic concepts, and their applications;
4. To enable our students to become policy-literate and thus be more informed as citizens;
5. To prepare our students for successful careers as applied economists, and
6. To prepare our undergraduate students for postgraduate training in economics.
